Family Support is Crucial to Your Business
Starting a business isn't easy, and will be that much more difficult without the support of those closest to you.
Why do those you love desert you when you need them?
1.Envy
Your loved ones may envy you and your abilities. Maybe they are in jobs that they dislikeand envy that you have found something you enjoy.
2. Feel it's too risky
Your family may feel that a regular paycheck and regular hours is what you need to do. Anything else is seen as a threat to the family stability.
3. Feel neglected
If you are spending a lot of time starting your business, your family may suffer. It's difficult for them to be supportive of you when they feel that they are being ignored.
4. Afraid of Change
Everything was comfortable before, so why start a business and turn the whole house upside down?
How do you gain the support you need?
1. Involve them in planning your business
Call a meeting and have everyone participate in the planning process. The more heads there are, the better the brainstorming session will be. When your family participates this way, they will have an "investment" in your business.
2. Seek out their input along the way
This follows the first idea. As you progress from starting to running your business, organize more brainstorming sessions to solve the problems that come up. More investment = more interest.
3. Make them the center of your attention frequently
Sometimes, you will have to set the business aside and make time for your family and friends. If you do this on a fairly regular basis, you won't hear so many complaints of neglect.
4. Be successful
Who can resist a success? You will see a marked change in attitude, especially, if they had a hand in it from the beginning.
